Le Cabanon
The Hut, 2007, Les Valarèdes, France Self construction, local Red Oregon Pine, refurbished material. One winter evening of 2007 I made a drawing of what could be my ideal artist’s hut. It had to be less than 20 sqm for a budget of 5.000€. I used a local wood produced in the area of Larzac in France, got some old windows that I refurbished, some metal rods from Calo’s greenhouse who is a friend and a spirulina farmer. It took 2 months of non-stop working with the help of Julien, a good friend who exchanged his labour against mine later on his house. After 2 month the hut was ready, had hot water from an upcycled gaz burner, a kitchen and a small bath and compost toilets. The walls’ isolation is cork and straw balls. I did not spend more that the initial budget but the hut at the end was 25 sqm.
